Applicants and applications:

  • To apply for a subsidy you must be an exhibitor or a registered trade visitor personally present at ADIBF. Trade visitors can also be empowered by rights holders to act as their agents for foreign rights transactions and to sign a Letter of Intent on their behalf.
  • Applications may be for translation rights to and from the Arabic language. Applications may also be considered for the licensing of Arabic/Arabic rights from one country in the region to another. However, applications for translation rights into and from Arabic will be given priority by the judging panel.

Steps to applying for a subsidy under the Spotlight on Rights scheme:

  • A rights transaction is initiated before or during your participation at ADIBF. It is also possible to apply for the subsidy if the rights contract has been signed up to four months before the fair.
  • Download the   Letter of Intent stating that you plan to proceed with a rights transaction and apply for the subsidy. The Letter of Intent can also be picked up at the Spotlight on Rights counter inside the Business and Rights Centre at ADIBF.
  • Licensor and licensee are then required to proceed to the Spotlight on Rights counter and sign the Letter of Intent IN THE PRESENCE of the Spotlight on Rights representative. (Note: pre-signed documents will not be taken into account by the organisers, and no documents handed in after the end of the fair will be accepted).
  • Not later than 4 weeks after the end of the fair, the licensee should mail the Application form 2011 to rights@kitab.ae, or fax it to +971 2 621 5772
  • The final license contract between licensor and licensee must be signed no later than 4 months after the end of the fair and sent to KITAB by mail or fax. No applications will be accepted for signed contracts received by the organiser after this deadline.
  • After approval by the organisers and receipt of the license contract, 25% of the subsidy will be paid to the licensee.
  • The balance will be paid on submission of 3 finished copies of the licensed edition to the organisers upon publication..

Please note:

  • The licensee will be required to refund the initial subsidy payment to the organisers if the licensed edition is not published by the agreed contractual deadline.
  • The licensee will be responsible for remitting to the rights holder the full license fee/royalty advance and any subsequent royalty payments as contractually agreed between both parties.
  • The logo of the programme must be printed in the licensed copy together with the following acknowledgement: “This edition has been produced with the assistance of a subsidy by the Spotlight on Rights programme in Abu Dhabi.”
