Definition: BookCrossing, noun, the practice of leaving a book in a public place, to be picked up and read by others or giving the book to a friend, who will then do likewise.

KITAB, in its promotion of reading, sets up BookCrossing Zones(BCZ) to help bring books and the joy that comes with reading to as many people as possible. A BCZ is a place where you can be sure to find books that have been tagged with a special sticker
If a book has a sticker, then it has been registered at www.BookCrossing.com. If you find/take one of these books, visit the website to look up the BookCrossing Identification (BCID) number printed on the sticker to fill in a ‘Journal Entry’ so that others can know that you’ve found the book. Here, you can post your comments about the book and share them with the rest of the BookCrossing community. This will help us know how far this book has travelled and how many people have read it.
Once you’re finished with the book, you can go back to the website to enter a ‘Release Note’ on the website telling others where you are releasing it, so they can hunt for the book! Ways to set it free:
- leave it at a participating coffee shop
- share it with a friend
- leave it at the gym / store
- OR leave it anywhere it might find a new reader!
Hopefully, another reader will find the book and follow the same guidelines, so that the book’s journey can be followed as it passes from hand to hand around Abu Dhabi Emirate and beyond.

The books that KITAB has selected include a mix of Arabic and English books for ages 10 years and above. We hope that people like you will read them and pass them on to someone else. All of these books have been especially selected to represent a few of the authors which have or will attend the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.

Thank you for taking part in BookCrossing in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. We hope you enjoy reading our books as much as seeing where they travel after they leave your hands! Watch this space for news of the next BookCrossing Zone!
